The Vila Central Hospital has reported an increase in people with respiratory symptoms or influenza-like illness presenting to the Emergency Department that is not due to COVID-19. Test results available to the Ministry of Health today confirm that this is due to Influenza Virus Type A.

The Ministry of Health would like to provide an update on the multi-country Monkeypox outbreak reported recently in the media. This viral disease has previously occurred mainly in parts of Africa, but recently has been found in 14 countries outside of Africa that do not usually have it.

The Ministry of Health would like to update the public on the current Neonatal Tetanus outbreak situation in Vanuatu. On 4th May 2022, a clinical confirm case of Neo Natal Tetanus in an 10 days old newborn was notified by the paediatric ward of Northern provincial hospital in Santo to the provincial surveillance officer. On 11 May, the case was reported deceased. No suspected or confirmed cases have been reported in other provinces or islands.
