The Ministry of Health would like to provide an update on the multi-country Monkeypox outbreak reported recently in the media. This viral disease has previously occurred mainly in parts of Africa, but recently has been found in 14 countries outside of Africa that do not usually have it.

The Ministry of Health would like to update the public on the current Neonatal Tetanus outbreak situation in Vanuatu. On 4th May 2022, a clinical confirm case of Neo Natal Tetanus in an 10 days old newborn was notified by the paediatric ward of Northern provincial hospital in Santo to the provincial surveillance officer. On 11 May, the case was reported deceased. No suspected or confirmed cases have been reported in other provinces or islands.
World Malaria Day is marked annually on 25 April to focus global attention on malaria and its devastating impact on families, communities and societal development. The theme for this year is; “Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives”, aligns with the call to urgently scale up innovation and the deployment of new tools in the fight against malaria, while advocating for equitable access to malaria prevention and treatment, within the context of building health system resilience.
TUBERCULOSIS (TB) in Vanuatu continues to be a Public Health problem as it continues to affect the lives of people. Report from the Department of Public Health shows that new cases are reported each year and is a medium burden TB country in the Pacific context.
